Legacy & Estate Planning
Ensuring Your Wealth Goes Where You Intend
Your wealth has a purpose beyond your lifetime. We help you ensure a seamless transfer of assets to loved ones and charities — coordinating estate documents, beneficiary designations, and wealth transfer strategies so your legacy reflects your values, not default rules.
What Is Legacy & Estate Planning?
Legacy planning is more than a will and a stack of documents. It's the deliberate design of how your wealth, your wisdom, and your values move from your hands to the people and causes you care about most.
It covers the legal architecture — wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, beneficiary designations — and the strategy that gives that architecture purpose: who receives what, when they receive it, how it's protected, and how much of it the IRS keeps along the way. A real legacy plan turns a transfer of money into a transfer of intention.
Why It Matters
Without a plan, your estate is governed by state default rules, outdated paperwork, and a probate court that moves slowly and publicly. Beneficiary forms from a job you left twenty years ago can override the will you signed last week. A missing trust can cost your family months of court time and tens of thousands of dollars. A poorly designed inheritance can hand a windfall to someone who isn't ready for it.
None of these outcomes reflect what you actually want — and all of them are preventable. The families who navigate this well don't do so by accident. They do it because someone helped them plan.
What We Coordinate
A Built to Last Legacy Plan brings five disciplines into alignment so nothing important is left to chance.
- 01
Estate Document Coordination
Wills, revocable trusts, durable powers of attorney, and healthcare directives form the legal backbone of your plan. We coordinate with your estate attorney to make sure the documents are current, consistent with each other, and aligned with the rest of your financial life.
- 02
Beneficiary Design
Beneficiary designations on retirement accounts, life insurance, and annuities pass outside of your will — and they overrule it when they conflict. We audit every account, fix the gaps, and coordinate primary and contingent beneficiaries so your assets actually arrive where you intend.
- 03
Tax-Efficient Wealth Transfer
How you transfer assets matters as much as what you transfer. We use Roth strategies, lifetime gifting, step-up-in-basis planning, and tax-aware account titling to reduce the bite that taxes take out of the inheritance you leave behind.
- 04
Trust & Generational Planning
When the situation warrants — blended families, beneficiaries with special needs, sizable estates, charitable intent — trusts become powerful tools for protection and control. We help you decide whether they belong in your plan, and how to design them to do real work.
- 05
Charitable & Philanthropic Strategy
If giving is part of your story, we structure it to amplify your impact and reduce your taxes — through Qualified Charitable Distributions, donor-advised funds, charitable trusts, and appreciated-asset gifting. The goal is for every dollar to do as much good as possible.
Inside the Blueprint
How this fits your Built to Last Plan
Legacy Planning is the final piece of your Built to Last Retirement Plan™ — but it's never an afterthought. The income, investment, tax, and healthcare decisions we make together all shape what's left behind, which is why we design the legacy alongside the life, not after it.
